I read this chortling with delight the whole way through. It's all just so very Vlad. I'm not sure how to take the ending, but I'm sure future books will explicate the meaning of the thing Vlad does and how exactly he means to handle it.

Now I sort of want to read it again to see how it's put together.

I didn't realize that the Left Hand of the Jhereg was as separate from the rest of the Jhereg as the conclusion to this book seems to imply. In fact, I found that a bit hard to accept for no real reason, I don't think it actually contradicts anything except the way I've been thinking about things for all these years.

Okay, and speaking of the ending, I want to guess that what it's going to mean is more politics and Vlad taking advantage of the powers and connections that he has in a more concerted way? I.e. not just getting his friends to contribute to individual plans, and not just staying with one or the other of them, but something bigger? Maybe taking advantage of his Imperial title more too? But that's just random speculation.
